Antonio Alcala

Antonio Alcala graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1983 with a BA in history. In 1985, after being named a Carl Purrington Rollins Fellow, he graduated with an MFA from the Yale School of Art. He worked as a book designer for two years before opening Studio A in 1988. Since then his studio has won awards of excellence in design from local, national and international design institutions. His clients include: the National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress, National Portrait Gallery, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Museum of Women in the Arts, National Geographic Society, Folger Shakespeare Library, Chronicle Books, The Walters Art Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution.

Antonio taught at American University and for the past twenty years at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, including one year as Interim Chair of the Graphic Design Department. He served as president of the Art Directors Club in Metropolitan Washington, and is currently on the Board of the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association. Alcala's work and contributions to the field of graphic design were recognized with his selection as the 2008 AIGA Fellow, Washington DC Chapter. His work is represented in the AIGA Design Archives and the Library of Congress Permanent Collection of Graphic Design.
